There is a sequel coming and also a free VR experience. Other than the performance issues and short length of about 3-4 hours, I recommend this if bundled or cheap. This is one of those games that you can tell the developers put a lot of love into to make a solid and entertaining game. Voice acting is good and the story has a few nice surprises to keep things moving.
Unity holds the graphics back a bit with some stuttering and lack of AA, but the environments and stationary camera angles give the game a lot of character. You play as a robot in a post-human world solving very traditional point and click style inventory puzzles as well as some logic puzzles. This is a traditional point and click adventure, but the developers managed to create a nice controller UI that works quite well. Got it in a giveaway and tried it solely because not many adventure games of this style get controller support. This one surprised me quite a bit being of much better quality than I expected. Highly recommended if less than $5 for Lovecraft fans, especially if you've read At the Mountains of Madness. Well voiced dialogue along with nice music and sound effects round out this 4 hour experience. Some of the environments have a cut and paste/asset store vibe, but the variety of the levels is enough to keep you going. Some Unreal engine based indie games tend to push up CPU/GPU usage for no discernible reason, but this game is well optimized even at maxed settings. The game mostly consists of exploration, reading journals and notes, solving simple puzzles, and two short run the hell away sections. One thing I really liked is that instead of making another early 20th century game, Conarium takes place as a modern day expedition trying to figure out what happened to the original expedition. There were references to other Lovecraft stories as well, which was a nice touch. The game follows the story of At the Mountains of Madness and the environments and graphics were quite close to what I pictured in my mind while reading that story. Leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.Got this free on the Epic store a few weeks ago and couldn't pass up a Lovecraft themed game.
